Having a Cold

Colds are such a common disease and we all get them a couple of times throughout the year. They are hard to avoid at the best of times, but why is it that some people seem determined to help spread their colds by sneezing and wheezing all over the place? Read the rest of this entry »

Pasta Dish

Consistency should be one of the most important things that a chef should strive for in a restaurant. You may have found a dish that you absolutely loved last time you were at a restaurant and have raved about it ever since. When you go back to the same pub or restaurant for the second time, and order the same dish again, you expect it to come out looking and tasting the same as it did the first time around. Incentives

In many countries all over the world, people are encouraged to do the recycling with various incentives. In the UK, it seems like it is the opposite way around and you are punished if you do your recycling wrong. How many times have you heard of the bins being left behind when a bit of plastic has ended up in the green bin? Or bins being emptied on the lawn and checked randomly to ensure that you have done it properly? This is no way to encourage people to want to recycle! Read the rest of this entry »

Hanging Out In the Playground

Why does it seem like so many youngsters today appear to have no manners or respect for anything? Is it just me, or do you get a lot of teenagers who swagger around as if they own the world and everything in it? Some older women are frightened of the groups of youths that hang around on the street corners, especially later on at night. Do they not have homes to go to? Many of the kids that are out late at night seem to be in their younger teenage years and should not be skulking around late at night in the first place! Read the rest of this entry »

The Before and After of Trawling

Have you ever seen when the trawlers come back in with their catch at the end of the day? Although these days there are strict guidelines on the sizes of fish and other seafood that we are allowed to catch, it seems to be that these regulations are not always in practice. Although the trawlers come in with fish that are in accordance with the laws, what about all the millions of other little creatures that they catch along the way? Yes, they are released into the sea again but not in the same state that they were in originally! Read the rest of this entry »

Petrol

The price of petrol and diesel has gone up astronomically in the last few months, and we are to expect an even further rise soon!! The government says that it is because of the high demand from the Chinese which is pushing up our prices here. Read the rest of this entry »

Rainfall

Is this one of the worst summers that we have ever seen, or is it just that we only remember the good days from last year? The last few weeks, we have seen nothing but rain, rain and more rain in many parts of the country. Rain is great in moderation, but it would definitely be a nice time to see a little bit of sunshine. Read the rest of this entry »

Excessive packaging

Are all the plastic wrappings on products really necessary? When you buy anything from the supermarket these days, the product seems to come wrapped in not one but sometimes two or three layers of plastic wrappings. Have you bought something recently that looks fairly generous only to get it home and to find that it is just a tiny object amidst layers of paper and plastic?

Rats and Rubbish

Does anyone think that the recycling system in the UK is a disgrace? Recycling is a great idea and most people are all for doing what they can to preserve the environment. The system that came into play in England a few years ago has got to be one of the most complicated and unhygienic ways to recycle ever. Read the rest of this entry »

This is something that really works under my skin - senseless violence. Even worse, the people who get away with it.

So many innocent lives are taken daily because of other people’s problems. Why are these people not found out and dealt with before something bad happens?

Are we so blind that we do not realize that the people around us are even capable? People pay close attention to their teenagers ever since the Columbine incident, but what about older people? How can a man kill his wife and child at point blank range and no one had any clue that he was going to do this?

In some cases these horrible criminals are caught, other times they are not. I often wonder how these people live with themselves; can they really go on with their life? I hope they suffer and think about those they killed every day.

Keep a vigilant eye on those around you. Watch for any mental break, odd behavior, or stress that could cause anyone in your life to commit a crime that is not in their nature. We need to help those who are suffering, even if they are not going to harm other people.
