In many countries all over the world, people are encouraged to do the recycling with various incentives. In the UK, it seems like it is the opposite way around and you are punished if you do your recycling wrong. How many times have you heard of the bins being left behind when a bit of plastic has ended up in the green bin? Or bins being emptied on the lawn and checked randomly to ensure that you have done it properly? This is no way to encourage people to want to recycle!
In many other countries, you will be given some money back when you return cans and bottles to almost any supermarket. Every time you buy a bottle of wine, or a can of coke, you will receive cash back when it is returned. This ensures recycling as well as encouraging people to do it off their own backs. The government should want people to recycle as opposed to forcing them into it. Such a simple idea of given the people something back for their hard work would work wonders!
