Does anyone think that the recycling system in the UK is a disgrace? Recycling is a great idea and most people are all for doing what they can to preserve the environment. The system that came into play in England a few years ago has got to be one of the most complicated and unhygienic ways to recycle ever.
The idea of having a green wheelie bin, a black wheelie bin, a green box, a black box and a kitchen caddie is all very well, but where in the world do they expect you to store it all? For people who live in apartments or smaller homes, there just is no room to recycle.
Each of the two wheelie bins is collected every fortnight on a specified day which is just the right time for them to be overflowing with rubbish. The green bins are used for all the things that can be composted, including all foods, vegetable peelings and paper. These things go into the bin as they are after being collected in the kitchen caddy. By the time the two weeks are up and the bin is due for collection, the bin is stinking with fish bones, meat, and spoiled fruit and is crawling with maggots and flies. The rat population in certain areas has doubled with this new recycling system, and sea gulls litter the streets with their pickings. The whole system is so disgusting and unhygienic and makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
