First dates can be very important, and you will want to be on your best behaviour in order to impress your date. Interesting anecdotes and stories are good, but do not monopolise the conversation. When your date is talking, you will want to listen to what they are saying. Appear interested and ask questions. If appropriate, you may want to compliment your date. Nothing too corny; but a genuine compliment on what you think. Everyone likes to receive compliments no matter what they say.
